Charity Event for Best Buddies is Coming!

Before I get into the details about this event I want to share my heart with you a little bit...

In 2010 I married a man with an older brother who had an intellectual disability. My husband's brother is Jon and he is the kindest and the sweetest soul you will ever meet. He is 35 years old and lives at home with his family in Deering. Some of his favorite things to do are cook and call family and friends to chit chat. He is the life of the party and every wedding we have been to with him he has completely torn it up on the dance floor. He is magical.

Before I married into this family I really did not have any interaction with individuals with intellectual disabilities. I did have these individuals in my school, but they were pretty secluded from the rest of us...

Did you see that word?

SECLUDED.

That is not okay.

Fast forward to 2019, where I joined a BNI chapter who was heavily involved with Best Buddies NH. I did not know very much about the program. I understood that two people were matched up and the buddies would go out together and build a friendship and bond. It was not until I was invited to the Best Buddies Gala in 2019 where my heart exploded and i was called to get involved IMMEDIATELY.

The Best Buddies gala is where a champion and their campaign manager work together to raise money for Best Buddies. This can be done on many fronts. Some do frisbee tournaments,  corn hole tournaments, events, fundraisers, donations and more. The winning champion and their campaign manager raised almost $9,000 at the 2019 gala.

Let me tell you this... I am registered to be a 2020 Best Buddies champion, my campaign manager is my brother in law, Jon Sbat and we are taking this title in November 2020.

So, the first event we are hosting for Best Buddies will be held here at the gym on Saturday. February 1st at 10AM. We will be playing movement BINGO! This event is open to Best Buddies, Get Fit NH peeps, kids, families, and the general public. We are encouraging you to bring a buddy...any buddy. Someone to play buddy BINGO with! This is not going to be your typical sweat fest charity training. This is an INCLUSIVE event. Everybody deserves to move their body and our typical group setting does not work for everyone.

Donation cost is not set. Donate what you are able to. Please come and bring a buddy. This is a powerful community event. If you would like to respond on the Facebook event you can do so here

Help us make it happen,

Coach Meagan.

    Embrace the Journey

In one of my previous blogs, I talked about lessons in failure and how you can learn to benefit from it. Now I want to look on the other side of the spectrum and talk about success. A lot of times we look at our individual success very differently when it comes to health and fitness. We all have different goals and aspirations. Some of us may desire to lose weight, while others may actually want to gain weight in the form of more muscle. Others may just want to move better or without pain. Whatever your goals are, it is important to celebrate your success whenever and however it happens.

Keep in mind your fitness journey is not a short ride, it is a long adventure. Results take time! You have to be consistent and patient to get results. It does not happen in a day or a week, it may even take months before you start seeing results. One thing I can’t stress enough is success is not purely measured by a scale! Your weight fluctuates up and down daily. If you are constantly stepping on a scale all you will do is cause yourself more stress and miss out on the bigger picture.

Like I said before, you are on a fitness journey. Learn to celebrate your success whenever it happens. Whether that is doing a progression you couldn’t do before. Or maybe you screened out of one of your bands. Be proud of all your accomplishments that you achieve, no matter how small it may seem. It is always a step in the right direction and brings you closer to your fitness goals. Do not be so focused on your destination, that you forget to enjoy the journey.

    Make it happen,

    Coach Dylan

21 Day + Nutrition Challenge is HERE

    New year, new you?

Nope. How about new you, new habits? That has a much better ring to it. We are excited to offer the 21 day + nutrition challenge. This is the first challenge that Get Fit NH will facilitate since new ownership. Same fabulous content you are used to from The Carlson's just coached by the faces you see everyday.

21 day + nutrition challenge focuses on removing sugar, dairy and grains from your nutrition for 21 days with a structured reintroduction process and a full week of preparation. Nutrition is not a one size fits all approach, so we have to be our own experiment to see what our body needs to thrive. We can all agree that your body needs protein, vegetables and healthy fats to thrive and sugar makes us feel terrible. You've heard all of the fads and probably tested a bunch. What works for you might not work for someone else and what works for someone else might not work for you. Your body might be sensitive to cheese or certain grains while mine might be sensitive to yogurt. These sensitivities reveal themselves through symptoms such as GI issues, inflammation, joint pain, migraines and more! We are going to find our what YOUR body needs. Just by kicking the sugar, eating whole foods ditching some potential foods that may be disrupting your system you will lose weight and you will feel better. That is the happy side effect!

The purpose of this challenge is to hit the reset button! Rid your body of it all and reintroduce step by step to find your happy place. This challenge provides a symptoms sheet so you can record any symptoms you may be experiencing at the beginning and rescore them at the end to see the difference.

Allow me to answer the two questions that come with all challenges...

1.) What happens after the challenge?

This is a focused 21 day challenge with a reintroduction period. You will be happy with your results and you will want to keep them, but you likely won't go the rest of your life without a cookie or an ice cream cone so at the end we shall talk BALANCE! That is where the Get Fit NH accountability group will come into play! You won't be left alone and accountability will still be present.

2.)  Are these the same recipes I've seen in previous challenges?

You have probably seen many of these recipes before. You are not paying for recipes. You are paying for accountability, coaching and results! If have the material and you are doing it on your on your own then by all means- keep at it!

    So, what do you get?

    • A manual with plenty of recipes to feed you (and your family) for the 21 days
    • A meal planning template
    • Symptoms spreadsheet
    • Daily check in email (For the experienced challengers: We are not coach catalyst, just a regular old-fashioned email)
    • Challenge specific Facebook group
    • Excellent coaching and endless support

Hardcore Hips, Strength and Power Class Coming Soon

Do you find yourself loving the hard and heavy days in training?

    Do you love:

    • Squatting heavy?
    • What about sprinting?
    • Running?
    • Jumping?
    • More explosive type of training?
    • How about just new ways to lift heavy stuff?
    • Do you still want to dust the competition? Or do you just like a challenge?

What if you could get it all in one class?

The Ski, Skate and Shred class received great reviews based on the type of training listed above so we have decided to keep the class going in a different form.  If you answered “yes” to any of the questions above then Hardcore hips, strength, and power is for you!

The first class will be Saturday, January 11th and will continue through Saturday, March 28th

This class will consist of individualized training written for each participant, which will progress over his or her time in the class.  While this is a challenging class this format allows me to work around any pain or movement restrictions you may have in an individualized manner.  This is a class that builds on itself therefore there will be no drop-ins, however we are offering the class in 4 weeks blocks so if you find that you are unable to make 4 weeks in a row there will be opportunity to make up the class in the later weeks.

When: Saturday mornings at 7:30am from January 11th until March 28th.

    • One exception: Due to the Autism Fitness Certification on January 18th the gym will not be available, so instead class will be held on Wednesday, January 15th at 6:30 am

Get Fit NH is CLOSED this morning 12/30/19

    Good Morning all,

I strongly dislike being in charge of making the decision to close or stay open when the weather looks like this. Especially coming off of a  recovery week!

I have to do what makes sense for the safety of you and our fantastic coaching staff. It is freezing rain and snow. The weather channel actually says that driving conditions will be "nearly impossible"

I can't justify a one-hour training session even though I know how ready you guys are to get back. I will do a Facebook live video at 5 so if you are not on our family page you can join us here https://www.facebook.com/groups/getfitnhfamily/

We will make another call for the 11am class and this evening class. I will send out an email REGARDLESS for each class
