Hey guys, we are excited to have finalized our plans for our indoor rock climbing expedition with our friends over at Evolution Rock and Fitness! Thanks to Coach Meagan for doing the ground work to make this happen.

Join us on Saturday April 13th from 9:00am to 11:00am for a fantastic morning of climbing fun. There will be climbing instructors there to help us learn proper technique and navigate our way up the walls. Seeing as I am not too found of heights (to put in mildly) it could be quite entertaining for y’all. 🙂

It’s very important you get your registration and payment in ASAP to secure a spot. We need to have a final head count by Monday April 1st, so don’t delay. It would be a whole lot of fun to have about 50 of us take the place over! 🙂

Registration Procedure

You will need to register and pay with Get Fit NH (form below) as well as sign Evolution’s online waiver. If you wait to sign the waiver, the world will turn off it’s axis and we will fall into the sun (or something like that).

615-300x300It is hard to believe that we are almost through the first phase of training for 2013.

Crazy Talk!

As scheduled, we will be taking our first recovery week of the year March 25th – March 29th.

We will have the opportunity to see you that week however, as we are excited to start our Spring Seminar Series with Dr. Laura Jones on Tuesday evening, which you definitely don’t want to miss!

For those clients who have joined us during this phase of training, the concept of recovery as part of your training plan is probably new, so we have put together some resources for you to get a handle on it.

The most important thing for you to understand that proper recovery is critical to your long term progress – when you don’t recover properly, you don’t make progress, it really is as simple as that.

Don’t try to beat the system – many have tried, all have failed!

Your body will not atrophy, you will not get fat, and you will not lose your fitness by taking a week of regular training off.

What you will do is allow your mind and body some extra rest, and you will come back refreshed and ready to kill the next phase of training!

No Commitment?

Never Give UpSeems like the rage these days is “no commitment” deals. Seems like every kind of business these days has some kind of offer out there that requires “no commitment”.

And while this might surprise you, I get it.

It appeals to something in all of us, kind of a “get out of jail free” card. I’ll give it a whirl and if it doesn’t work then I’m out.

Don’t tie me down, don’t lock me in.

Now I am all for letting someone try your product or service and make sure it is something they want or like.

At Get Fit NH we offer a free two-week tryout, but there is a difference.

We give you two weeks to make sure.

Make sure of what?

That you can and will be committed to your training with us.

It’s why we go to the lengths we do to make sure you are here and training when you said you would be. To educate and give you the tools you need to reach your goals. To give you every chance to succeed.

Because I have been there.

I don’t use this word often, but I am going to use it here, because it’s true.

I have failed many times in my life.

It used to frustrate my parents from the time I was 11 or 12. I would never follow through and see something to the end.

It could be a model airplane that I left half done. Or a club that I belonged to that I just didn’t “feel like” doing anymore. Or not getting as good of grades as I could have because I didn’t want to put the work in.

From the time I got out of the service until I was in my early thirties I never stayed at a job more than 3 years, for this reason or that. I left of my own free will, but that’s not really the point. The point is I didn’t stick with it.

As I look back over the years it occurs to me that for whatever reason I was never really afraid of failing. Heck I was too cocky to think I could fail at anything, even when I was in the middle of a free fall.

What I was afraid of…

was Success.

If you look inside I suspect you may have had similar fears at one time or another in your life.

Because succeeding can be really scary.

Your whole life can change.

And while we may think we know what we want, the closer we get to actually realizing the goal the more we are afraid of what is going to happen if we actually get there.

As in “What’s Next?”

Think about it.

Sometimes we have “goals” that drive us our whole lives, and we are so consumed with them they become our whole Raison d’être.

And sometimes it is harder to let go of the goal than to actually achieve it.

But it doesn’t really matter what is holding you back, what matters is that we learn to ignore it, to persevere, to find a way to keep pushing forward.

It may be a hard truth.

But life requires commitment.

There isn’t much worth achieving that doesn’t require a little sucking it up, getting over not feeling like it, and sometimes just slogging through.

It’s not all that popular a concept these days. But there is very little in life that gets handed to you.

I am glad I finally figured that out, and am grateful for the patience and support of my wife Nancy through quite a few wasted years.

And believe me, I don’t have it all figured out.

But I do know that when I stay the course, when I am committed, it makes a huge difference on my outlook, even when reaching the goal takes longer than I want.

The great wartime leader Winston Churchill knew of which he spoke when he said

“Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, give up. Never give up. Never give up. Never give up.”

Your Chocolate Cravings Fixed?

Jenn, (one of those crazy people who train at 5 am Concord), sent me a fantastic recipe. She has shared this recipe with several at the 5 am crew but wanted to fill everyone in on her secret.

Protein Pancakes

1/2 cup egg beaters (or 2 large eggs)
1 scoop UMP (I have used all flavors)
1/2 a mashed banana
splash of vanilla

Mash the banana in a bowl and add the eggbeaters. Stir in the UMP and then add vanilla. Cook as you would regular pancakes. I get three pancakes from the recipe. They are SO yummy!

“I have made them witChocolate Fix Cookiesh chocolate, rocky road and vanilla (with cinnamon). All flavors of UMP are good.  Make it a GREAT day!”

Melissa who trains at 5 am Epsom also has her secret recipes for UMP.

“I’ve discovered a new recipe. It was delicious!”

Chocolate Fix Cookies

1/2 an avocado
1 tbsp cocoa powder
1 scoop of UMP vanilla protein
Purée all of the above
Mix in 1 square of dark chocolate chopped (optional of course)
Bake at 350 for 8-10 min

It’s perfect for those chocolate cravings. I found it very satisfying and I don’t even care for avocado typically.  What is typical is the UMP (Ultimate Muscle Protein) is delicious in all kinds of recipes, not only the best tasting shakes around. 🙂

The Best Jeans Ever!

Doreen from our 9 AM Ladies crew just sent this text over to me. It made my day!Recovery drinks in hand

“Just wanted to say thank you. I went shopping with my girls and I decided to try on some jeans because my old ones are getting a bit loose. I tried one, the best jeans ever. They were a size 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went from a size 14 to a 10. Thank you for helping me find the best jeans ever.”

She didn’t just tell me because a few minutes later I get an email from Marcy. (If you are in the 9 AM group, these two ladies car pool to keep each other accountable to Get Fit NH.)

Marcy writes: “Thank you for being my motivation! For being there for all my questions and inquiries! You have really changed my life and I thank you for that! I never thought I would stick with a program and here I am 2 years!!!!! By the way, I think I am NOT the lead talker anymore!! Doreen just bought a size 10 jean and is over the top!!! Donna M.’s Anniversary Success Story

“I just reached my 1 year anniversary attending Coach Erin’s fun 4:15 Concord class! I wanted to share my story and hope that this may encourage others who have been ‘on the bench’ thinking about trying the program.    

1 year ago, I was out of shape, overweight and frustrated. I had busted up a knee, had surgery and did not recover well. My compromised knee gave out, I fell and broke my ankle.

I cried more from the frustration that day than from the pain.   

After ankle surgery to repair a compound fracture, I had a decision to make. At 55, I had a whole lot more life ahead of me, and I did not want to spend it ‘on the bench’.

A friend encouraged me to try Dean and Nancy’s boot camp.  She told me that it was a positive experience for her and said that it was ‘fun’. I tried the 2 week intro and was hooked immediately.   

After 12 months, I am no longer ‘on the bench’.  I’ve dropped 32 pounds, feel better than I had in 10 years & can pick up my grandson without hesitation.
