In the middle of March, Paula from the 9am ladies in Epsom, had heart surgery. We all miss her and wish her well. It was wonderful to hear from her last week. She wasn’t thinking of herself but of you.
Yes, that’s right, she just had major surgery and she is thinking of encouraging you.
Here’s what Paula had to say:
“Thank you for the card, which means I am home, got released last Wed. Everything went well and now its just the slow road of recovery. Of which I want to thank you for Get Fit NH’s strong beneficial influence. You are free to share with other clients, since none of us ever know for sure when and why we might need surgery, but all the little things we do in class which help with balance and strength which might seem minor or insignificant at the time but has shown already to be a major bonus to my healing. All the nurses from the ICU to the cardiac ward, were very impressed with my immediate balance and control and even my breathing exercises. You know I never thought that every time you made us get off the floor without using our hands, would be so important to me now that I have to get in and out of the recliner and bed without bearing any weight on my arms, for the next 4 to 6 weeks.
So for all those folks who focus on the stuff that creates the 6packs, they should realize how important everything you teach us comes into play. Thank you again, and eventually when I get back I may never get to do a true chin up, but at least now my breathing should be able to keep up with my muscle strength, and that will allow me to finally push 100%. Yeah!!!!!!!!” – Paula
Paula, I have faith that you will make it happen on the chin bar. I can’t wait to see you as soon as your doctor’s give the go ahead. Until then your Get Fit NH family will do whatever you need doing. – Coach Nancy
Jenn, (one of those crazy people who train at 5 am Concord), sent me a fantastic recipe. She has shared this recipe with several at the 5 am crew but wanted to fill everyone in on her secret.
Protein Pancakes
1/2 cup egg beaters (or 2 large eggs)
1 scoop UMP (I have used all flavors)
1/2 a mashed banana
splash of vanilla
Mash the banana in a bowl and add the eggbeaters. Stir in the UMP and then add vanilla. Cook as you would regular pancakes. I get three pancakes from the recipe. They are SO yummy!
“I have made them with chocolate, rocky road and vanilla (with cinnamon). All flavors of UMP are good. Make it a GREAT day!”
Melissa who trains at 5 am Epsom also has her secret recipes for UMP.
“I’ve discovered a new recipe. It was delicious!”
Chocolate Fix Cookies
1/2 an avocado
1 tbsp cocoa powder
1 scoop of UMP vanilla protein
Purée all of the above
Mix in 1 square of dark chocolate chopped (optional of course)
Bake at 350 for 8-10 min
It’s perfect for those chocolate cravings. I found it very satisfying and I don’t even care for avocado typically. What is typical is the UMP (Ultimate Muscle Protein) is delicious in all kinds of recipes, not only the best tasting shakes around. 🙂
Keep those recipes coming in,
Nancy
Doreen from our 9 AM Ladies crew just sent this text over to me. It made my day!
“Just wanted to say thank you. I went shopping with my girls and I decided to try on some jeans because my old ones are getting a bit loose. I tried one, the best jeans ever. They were a size 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went from a size 14 to a 10. Thank you for helping me find the best jeans ever.”
She didn’t just tell me because a few minutes later I get an email from Marcy. (If you are in the 9 AM group, these two ladies car pool to keep each other accountable to Get Fit NH.)
Marcy writes: “Thank you for being my motivation! For being there for all my questions and inquiries! You have really changed my life and I thank you for that! I never thought I would stick with a program and here I am 2 years!!!!! By the way, I think I am NOT the lead talker anymore!! Doreen just bought a size 10 jean and is over the top!!! How awesome is that!!!” (Marcy likes exclamation points – but that is enthusiasm speaking) 🙂
Thank you Doreen and Marcy for choosing to train at Get Fit NH. Keep those enthusiastic stories coming, they inspire us all! – Coach Nancy
I read every day. I find that in that reading there is sometimes more power packed into a few paragraphs than one hundred pages written on a subject.
Here’s some nuggets that apply to your training AND your nutrition.
1. Train to get better, not to get done.
Get Fit NH states this in regards to training but the same thing applies to nutrition.
Are you eating each meal as if the quality/quantity of the foods you eat will dictate your success? Are you treating each snack with that same respect as well?
2. Be a Champion. Championships aren’t won Overnight.
They take months of practice, a willingness to work and a genuine passion for what you’re doing. Everyone is a champion at something. Would you like to be known for someone who is a champion of their body?
3. Celebrate small victories.
Winning one game doesn’t mean you win a championship – but it’s a way to measure your progress and validate your efforts. Measure your efforts on a short term scale. Always work towards that championship.
4. Compete.
I think this is a biggie. Winners of competition don’t go through the motions. Athletes train. Everyone else works out. (sound familiar to anyone?)
The difference…competition. Part of training is the fuel you feed your body. Are you going through the motions in your nutrition?
5. Handle adversity.
In baseball, hitters that don’t let one bad at bat turn into a bad game are the most successful. In eating habits it’s the same. A missed PPW meal doesn’t mean you can’t succeed. A bad choice in the evening doesn’t mean you’re destined for failure. Learn from it and move on.
In other words – You learn by doing. You’ll find what works by taking action, making changes, and sticking to your goal.
Get Better, Every Day.

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner.
Get Fit NH has their own version of a Valentine Sonnet. It is full of love and contains gifts for everyone.
Roses are Red
Get Fit NH is for you.
Join me in health
And have some fun too!
This Valentine will be perfect for your spouse, a sister, your brother, father, mother and even your friends, because we are holding an especially sweet Referral Rewards contest from RIGHT NOW until February 14th.
Here is how the gift giving works.
(Warning: We have very limited training slots open, so you gotta be fast!) We have between 1 and 2 slots open in each of the Get Fit NH Epsom training times, and in Concord we are targeting the 7:25am training and a couple spots at the 8:30am Ladies. If you have friends and family that have been on the fence now is the time to get them here, before it is too late and someone else gets that coveted training spot. And yes, Concord clients can refer to Epsom and vice versa.
No group of clients has been more supportive of us over the years, and rather than spend a bunch of money in the paper advertising, we want to give it to you, plus a very special bonus.
Because when your referral signs on to train with us, on top of your normal Referral Rewards, and in recognition of the season of love, we are going to treat you and someone special to dinner and a movie.
How cool is that?
Time away, time together, a dinner gift certificate, and two movie tickets. All for doing something that shows you really care.
But don’t delay – This special offer expires February 14th.
So get on the horn and point the way here: http://www.getfitnhbootcamp.com/featured/fitness-bootcamp-sign-up/
Make It Happen,
Coach Nancy
A new movie is about to have a run at the Red River Theatres in Concord. American Meat is about a pro-farmer look at chicken, cattle, and hog production. The movie is a documentary including the history of the industrial system, the feed lots and the confinement operations being used today, viewed through the eye of the farmers who live and work there.
The story then shifts to the Salatin family of Polyface Farm who have developed and alternative agricultural model. But could this model feed all of us?
This movie is brought to the Red River by Miles Smith Farm.
I know a few of you who have already bought your tickets, so if you would like to join them I listed the showtimes below.
Friday, January 11th at 7pm
Saturday, January 12th at 7pm
Sunday, January 13th at 7pm
Monday, January 14th at 7pm
Enjoy the show!
Coach Nancy
Eating your way RIGHT through the holidays was about not about easy or being average.
It wasn’t about settling for the typical but rather going against the grain (no pun intended).
It was about you taking control of your life and your choices, not let others control you.
And you did amazing!
Eating your way RIGHT through the holidays lasted 12 weeks and saw over 46 Get Fit NH clients participating. 31 magnificent clients lost weight from Halloween to New Years and 6 more kept their weight even. They should all be congratulated. If you know one, please let them know how great they are.
A special shout out goes to the top 5. Between them they lost 76 pounds! Five people during the most difficult time of the year, lost weight, and lots of it.
Without making you wait any longer here is your top 5, with percentage of weight lost:
1. Debbie Berwick – 13.41%
2. Lynne Marston – 8.13%
3. Beth Garcia – 7.78%
4. Kim LeBrun – 7.15%
5. Judy Odom – 5.89%
How great is that!
Our Partners for Success have opened up their hands and helped us congratulate these ladies (yes, all ladies this time round) by providing these wonderful prizes for our winners. Thank-you all so much! Please visit the websites below and check out these great services.
Debbie will receive a gift certificate to D’Tangles Salon & Spa in Epsom as well as our friends at Chichester Massage.
Our other winners will enjoy gift certificates from D’Tangles, Sally’s Hair’em in Concord, or Peace & Balance Body Therapies in Concord. A wonderful way to reward their hard work.
The holidays are over, but it doesn’t mean we have to stop Eating RIGHT, so keep up the great work!
Coach Nancy
Get Fit NH has some crazy clients. Crazy like, pulling firetrucks down Main St. Crazy like, sliding down huge slip and slides. Crazy like, loving to ride bikes for miles and miles. Crazy like, enjoying races involving mud, obstacles, and fire. Crazy like SkiErg till you drop. Crazy like doing 5050 pushups over 100 days. But there are a few that are crazy and like to run.
Yes, run – now THAT is crazy! 🙂
Mae Lynn approached me awhile back about the possibility of putting a team together for the annual “Reach the Beach Relay”, which is run to support many worthy causes, including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Here is how the RTB website describes the race:
Reach the Beach Relays combine fun, fitness, adventure and team building like no other running event. The Reach the Beach (RTB) Running Relay Race is one of the longest distance running relay races in the United States. The RTB Relay will take place in picturesque New Hampshire during the start of the New England foliage season. The relay will consist of (a maximum of) 12 person teams that will rotate through 36 transition areas as they cover the approximate 200 mile distance of the race. This means that each relay team member will run 3 legs of varying lengths and difficulty and will cover an average total distance of ~16.6 miles.
Sound Crazy? Sound like something you would like to do?
If we are going to be crazy in 2013 like we were in 2012, we need to know who would like to do this race. The dates of the race are September 13-14. To stick with the craziness of it all, the race is run overnight from Cannon Mt. to Hampton Beach. There is a cost of $120 per person with a team of 12. While we are not asking for the fee yet, we do need to know if we can get 12 crazy people to do this.
Once we have your name on our team, we’ll get registered and the race will be crazier with Get Fit NH there.
If you are serious about being on the team, please visit the RTB website, thoroughly study what you are getting yourself into, then fill out the form below to indicate your interest.
BASE – Be Aware Safe Exit. Scott Lewis delivered high energy, high passion, and a high level of training at our self defense course last weekend. I hope you’ve heard the chatter about the workshop, and we are looking forward to the next one. If you haven’t heard it in person here is what a few of the ladies who attended had to say afterward.
“Just a note to thank you for organizing last Saturday’s Self Defense course and to tell you how much I enjoyed it. My daughter, Lindsay, joined me for the morning and we both felt we learned allot and left the session with new skills.
Scott did a great job of packing a lot of information and common sense skills into the 2-hours. His hands on approach added to the learning experience.
A couple key take-aways included learning and practicing evasive tactics that would become second nature in an attack situation, as well as being aware of your surroundings and avoiding potentially precarious situations. His comment about projecting an air of confidence made sense, as well.
I hope you can offer the class again, for those that couldn’t make it – it was time well spent!
Thank you, again!” – Jane
“I was entirely impressed with Scott’s Self Defense Workshop ~ on many many levels. His common sense approach resonated with me thru out the entire 2 hours – ranging from ‘prevention’ (don’t put yourself in a questionable environment or situation to begin with, walk with confidence), the goal is to escape (don’t think you can out muscle an opponent who is much larger & stronger than you, your #1 goal is to get away), techniques needed to defend yourself (how to get up off the ground into a ‘base’ stance, using leverage to your advantage, how to protect your face, how to pull away & more), and finally the most surprising aspect shared with us was the need for compassion (the attacker has probably been attacked and is dealing with significant issues).
I only wish I had brought members of my family and friends to the work shop!” – Donna
“I was a little apprehensive about taking the self defense not knowing what it was all about.
Right from the time I got there, Scott made you feel at ease and very comfortable. He explained all the different techniques thoroughly. He loved it when you asked questions and made the class fun. I had a great time and learned a lot about how to get out of a bad situation without violence.
For those of us who love to do the Get Ups in training, he showed us a new way to ‘get up’ and get away. I am sure Nancy will give you a demonstration so that we can practice. Thanks Nancy for doing the class it was worth it.” – Janet
I would like to thank everyone from our Get Fit NH family who came out to Concord to support a great cause on October 27th.
The first annual Wicked FIT Run was a great success. It was hosted by a nonprofit organization called FIT, or Families in Transition. This was near and dear to my heart since my very good friend Maureen happens to be the president of FIT.
The fundraiser event had just over 300 runners and walkers, over 40 volunteers, and raised $9,500.00. There were a lot of amazing sponsors and cool prizes. You can even ask Diane from our 9:00 AM ladies group in Epsom. She won her category and received a pair of snowshoes.
Since this was right before Halloween, many folks showed up in costumes, along with plenty of kids. Next year’s date for the 2nd annual Wicked FIT Run will be October 26, 2013. Hope this will give everyone a heads up for next years race, and time to plan some great costumes to wear.
Thank you again and I am truly blessed to be a part of such great supportive families.
