S3 Success Story “So, I am finally getting it!”

Got this note from Get Fit NH Superstar Katie a couple days ago, and it is a keeper! There is so much in here to be learned, so take a few minutes to soak it all in.

Here are some good reminders that I saw in here:

  • Don’t be “all or nothing”
  • Make it as easy as possible
  • Have a positive attitude
  • Expect results WHEN you get your nutrition in order

Great job Katie, keep it up.

Coach Nancy

When I joined in January, I weighed XXX lbs according to my scale at home (which happens to be pretty much dead on with the new scale you got), and when I started S3 I weighed XXX lbs. I was doing the work, but wasn’t eating right, so not
seeing huge results.

Haha, remember there were no veggies on my food diary for two days??

Since S3 started, I have been eating 1-2 large salads per day, and have pretty much cut out all bad carbs and limited the good ones.  Since 4/30, I’ve lost 9.8 lbs and it feels great!  And I actually look forward to eating my big salad at dinner!  There were two occasions where I sat and ate a salad while everyone else was going to town on a bowl of ice cream!

I just want to thank you and Dean for all that you do – it’s great to have trainers that genuinely care about their clients, and go above and beyond to help them reach their goals.  You definitely push me to do more than I would have done on my own, and there are many times I find myself hearing you say “you can do anything for xxx more seconds” (like when I’m running up the hill by my house, and want to stop and walk)…

I am just really surprised with how well this is working for me – meaning, I am losing weight and it has been easy!  I was
hoping to lose 2 lbs a week during S3, but I thought that number was too high to shoot for.  I had prepared myself that I might have to start running every day to do this (like I’ve had to do in the past to see results), but I haven’t needed to. I’ve only been running maybe 1-3 times a week (short, like a mile, and when I say run I mean an 11 minute mile jog). I honestly don’t love running, so in the past I think I always failed before reaching my goal weight (and gained ALL of my weight back and THEN some) because I made my weight loss plan too difficult to stick to.  If I didn’t run 5 days a week, I would get discouraged.

The diet part wasn’t working for me because I definitely wasn’t eating enough protein, and was always hungry.  Now, I really only eat 3 meals a day.  Occasionally, I will have 1-2 plain Wasa crackers as a snack, or a piece of fruit, but I haven’t really been hungry between meals.  I think the one thing that made this easiest for me when starting off, is that I took all the decision making out f meal planning.  I don’t have to think “what am I going to make for dinner?” because I already know that it’s going to be a lean meat with either sauteed veggies or a salad or both.  Or if I’m going out to eat, I know that I am going to get a salad with grilled chicken.

Lately, I’ve made the Melissa’s Mean Green UMP shake for dinner (get the recipe here) because it’s good, cool, and filling!  Just last night my husband and I both had shakes, and he kept saying “wow, this is really good” (before he had it, he made a face when I told him I was putting flax seed and avocado in it).

Oh, and I haven’t stuck to this diet 100%.  I know in the past I’ve been all or nothing – “since I’m going to have this hot dog, I might as well eat a burger, potato salad, pasta salad, 2 beers, half a bag of chips and a bowl of ice cream”.  I’ve just tried to do my best wherever I’ve been, and allowed myself to have smaller portioned treats when I’m around certain foods.  I’ll eat my meat and salad, and have a little scoop of the yummy looking potato salad.  It was a little tough at first, but I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t really want that stuff (or at least not a lot of it – I’m satisfied
after a few bites).

Haha, sorry for the book I just wrote, but I’m just in such disbelief with how well this is working for me!  Have a great weekend and see you on Monday!

Looking forward to reaching my goal weight in the near future, thanks to your help!

Katie

When Bad News Turns into Good

Claudia, one of our superstars in Epsom, had an incident last week but it didn’t slow her down one bit. She inspires those at 9AM and I’m sure she will inspire you too.

The Bad News Good News Fall
“Last week I was walking across my paved driveway looking at my mail when I tripped and fell over a piece of wood onto my knees, hands etc. I laid there for awhile in pain and then slowly got up. That is the Bad News. Good News is that very shortly I realized that I only had bruised my knees. (I am the one with hip replacements). The next day at bootcamp I told Nancy thank you. Without having built the strength I have from working out I am sure  things would have been worse. So thank you again for being here.” – Claudia

Claudia is living proof that the work you put in now pays off in more ways than you can count. We are all getting older, but you have the choice to get better. Thank you Claudia for sharing this not only with the ladies but with the entire Get Fit NH family,
Coach Nancy

Donna finds a way to ‘Make It Happen’

Did you ever think, “Next week will be easier”? Or how about, ” When the kids are all grown up I’ll finally be able to……”?
Right now I (Coach Nancy) keep thinking on “Monday I can plan to do this since I don’t have anything else to do.” (granted Mondays are a busy day around the Carlson household each week, why would I think I could add in one or two more things on any given Monday?)
Many of us are looking for that corner to turn when life will be easy and smooth. You know, kind of like the grass on the other side of the fence. Well Donna from Concord is making things happen no matter what life throws at her. I recently talked with her to find out how things have changed for her since adding Get Fit NH Bootcamp into her mix.
“Since the children are all grown and moved out I have “me” time.
Breakfast was never easy when they were growing up.  Time was all about
them and making sure they were taken care of.   Breakfast time has
change considerably since starting with Get Fit.  It has basically
become the most important meal of the day.   If I don’t eat it I find
myself seeking out what ever I can put in my mouth, which is never a
good idea.  I think that is why I had the doughnut on Friday.  I ate
breakfast but it was more carb than protein.
I find that if I make my breakfast in the evening, or at least determine
what it is going to be, everything runs smoother in the morning
especially since I have less than an hour before I have to leave for
work once getting home from a BC session.  It’s easy to scramble a few
eggs with extra egg whites toss in some veggies and divide it up into
containers.   I usually make enough for a couple of breakfasts.  I
always make sure that I have containers of cut up onions & peppers in
the refrigerator.  I usually make my oatmeal with the vanilla UMP in the
AM because I find that it tastes better fresh than warmed up.
It has made a big difference in my energy level in the AM. If I don’t
have a good breakfast I feel like I need a nap once I get to work.”
Donna has lost seven pounds and is continuing to drop weight. Sure she still struggles but we all do. She is planning and prepping her meals to make the beginning of each day easier. We could learn a lot of Donna.
While there is not a magic pill to make things easier. Donna is adjusting her routine to  make sure nutrition is a priority. Along with the weight loss Donna has found proper nutrition also helps her energy level stay high.
Thank you Donna for ‘Making It Happen’ day to day!
To your best health,
Coach Nancy

Hester is Training for the Sport of Life

Hester posted this to our FLAG group this morning, and it so good I thought I’d share with everyone.

“Dean’s post this morning prompted me to think about why I do these things called boot camp and FLAG.

What made me commit to myself?

Why do I set a 4:15 alarm, and why do I write down everything I eat and why do I share stuff like this in a group forum?

There are all the obvious reasons but what finally pushed me to make the change?

I think it happened when my first grandchild, now two, was a couple of months old. I had the opportunity to take care of him over a long weekend. After three days of constant carrying, lifting, going up and down stairs, and up and down with floor activities I couldn’t deny I was out of shape and if I wanted to enjoy this little boy and future grandchildren I had to shed some weight and get stronger.

With grandson #2 due at the end of May I’m looking forward to a summer of granny-stuff and not worrying about the physical aspects and keeping up. Who knows, maybe these boys and their cousins will tell stories some day about their crazy grandmother who taught them how to do upper body sprints and dynamic planks. (But made their mother do the burpees.)” – Hester C.

Love it Hester, keep up the great work!

Get Fit NH Bootcamp & Hiking the Grand Canyon

Just received this note from Ann, who is spending her February vacation in Arizona doing some hiking in the Grand Canyon. Ann shared how her training is helping her so what she loves. She is training for life – Great work Ann, and thank-you!

“Just wanted to tell you that I just finished 3 days of hiking in Arizona. Our first day was a 14 mile “reverse hike” (descent before ascent) in the Grand Canyon.

Now, I’ve been doing some hiking in the past few months, but nothing like this, especially since my knee surgery. Yet I felt so strong on the hike, even on the last couple miles climbing back to the rim, which I’m sure is the result of the work I’ve been doing in Boot Camp.

So I just wanted to say “thanks” for providing workouts that not only feel great on their own, but help prepare us for the other things we want to do.” – Ann W.

Inspiration from Katrina!

I love this poem! Thanks for sharing Katrina!

“Dean,  You always send us inspirational things,I want to share something that you may have heard, but when my son Kellen started at Bishop Brady High School this was sent to all of us in their newsletter. Kellen graduated in 2000 and to this day this is posted on my refrigerator. Especially since my husband and I are self employed when things seem like they couldn’t go more wrong, I read this and it gives me inspiration.  It definitely helps me also in my workout as well, I reached my lowest weight and inches this morning since I started bootcamp in July. Big smile on my face today.   Thank you bootcamp!! – Katrina G.”

When things go wrong, as they sometimes well,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill
When the funds are low and the debts are high
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest! if you must—but never quit.

Life is queer, with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about
When he might have won if he’d stuck it out;
Stick to your task, though the pace seems slow—
You may succeed with one more blow.

Success is failure turned inside out–
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt–
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when your’re hardest hit–
It’s when things seem worst that YOU MUSTN’T QUIT!!

Lori Is Cranking It – Success Story!

Lori Before

Ever since Lori walked through the door she has attacked her training with passion and perseverance.

The results so far?

Check it out!

“Build it and they will come”

Seems like such a simple statement.

That’s what the voices said to Kevin Costner in Field of Dreams. Those around him thought he was crazy, but with faith and perseverance he made it happen. I felt like those naysayers. I was so uncomfortable in my own skin and so tired of feeling tired.

Lori after 14 weeks at Get Fit NH - Making It Happen!

But here I am after 14 weeks of Bootcamp down, 16 lbs with a lot of body re-composition! And what has it taken to get me here….perseverance, hard work and a whole lot of faith!! I wish I could say it was easy, but its not. But I can say it has gotten less daunting!! I so look forward to training days at 8:30. I do know that the ladies in my group are a great source of support, encouragement and inspiration.

We all have our “field of dreams ” that we striving toward and with the support of each other and Coach Dean and Coach Erin we are making it happen!!

I think the secrect to success is finding what works best for you. For me, it is the hard work at Bootcamp and staying away from extra carbs and overly processed foods. There is no magic pill to swallow, no magic potion or lotion to use.If you look deep enough you will find that the magic is inside of you and you have to have faith and willingness to do the hard work!! I am still a work in process and have a way to go but I will make it happen!

Thanks Get Fit NH, Coach Dean, Coach Erin and all the ladies at the 8:30 Ladies class in Concord!!

Scott Shows You Aren’t Dead at 50 – Not Even Close!

Got this note and pics from Epsom 4:00pm superstar Scott Decker last week. This guy works hard, and it shows! 23 pounds lost in the 16 weeks he has been training, he is totally transforming his body, and the posture is getting better too – well done Scott!

Hi Dean and Nancy,

In addition to being thankful for family and friends this Thanksgiving, I’m also very thankful to you guys for helping me get this 50-year old body back in shape.

Removing the extra carbs from your diet is probably the best advice I could give.  I have not felt like I have “denied” myself from eating.  Eating “smarter” is the key.

Also, giving 110 % during the workouts is key.  Don’t shy away from doing that extra push-up or squat during the timed training routines, and above all don’t be afraid to sweat!!

Hope you don’t mind the “topless” photos.

Scott
