Spotlight Shines on Get Fit’s Own Snowboard Superstar

hannah kelsey spotlight

Hannah is pictured in the middle on the 1st place podium as she celebrates her accomplishment.

Spotlight time!!! This time I have chosen to spotlight Hannah Kelsey.

A little over a month ago, Hannah reached a huge achievement in snowboarding. Here are her results from the National Championships held at Copper Mountain, CO:

•    1st Place USASA Nationals Slopestyle, Women 18-24
•    2nd Place USASA Nationals Rail Jam, Women 14 & Over
•    2nd Place USASA Nationals BoarderCross, Women 18-24

Hannah has been snowboarding for 7 years overall, 6 of which have been competitively. She was on the snow about 60 days this year riding with the Waterville Valley BBTS snowboard team. She mostly enjoys and focuses on the freestyle/trick side of the spectrum.

Having one of our own family achieve something like this, on this level, is huge. I have had the pleasure of coaching Hannah in class as well as in our Athlete Academy and there are few, if any at all, that work harder than she does. She is always willing to push her training including taking on modifications and suggestions in order to make her training as effective and sport specific as possible. I am extremely proud of Hannah and her huge accomplishment. It is not something that comes easy or without hard work. Keep up the good work, Hannah!

3 Years and Still Shining

marie

The spotlight is shining on Marie Oosterman from 5 AM Concord! I asked Marie to share her story with us, because she is a fire cracker. She gets in here every single day and works her butt off. She will be one of few that braves a snow storm even all the way from Hopkinton to make it happen. Over the past three years I have had the opportunity to watch Marie grow as an individual and become significantly stronger. We both remember when I used to tell her, “hips up!” on her push ups and front planks and now she rocks out push ups like she has been doing them her entire life. Marie’s story is humble, so allow me to brag a little on her behalf. I am proud of how far Marie has come and I am thrilled that I have been her coach for the past three years. Here is what Marie has to say-

“My name is Marie from 5 AM in Concord. I joined Get Fit NH 3 years ago because I wanted to lose some weight and gain muscle. I have successfully been able to do that. I also learned to eat healthier and I have built up my confidence. I have formed some great friendships and this truly is the highlight of my day. Each training is so different. I love how I am encouraged to train hard and the encouragement from my coaches- even just a “great job, Marie” means a lot to me. I love how they care about their clients.”

It has been a pleasure to coach Marie for the past 3 years. I look forward to many more!
Thanks for making it happen, Marie!

6:45pm Couple Hits The Spotlight

audreyericFor my next spotlight, I want to shine the light on two students who continually and consistently are a staple of my 6:45 class. Those students are Audrey Langevin and Eric Hastings! They always make the effort to get here with the exception of extreme circumstances. They also are prepared to come in, challenge themselves and work hard every class every week. Great job guys!
“Hi Adam,

We Chose Get Fit because the fitness place Eric & I was attending closed. I researched online several fitness places in Concord area and Get Fit seemed the best fit for us, plus we could try it for two weeks to see if we liked it. Although I had worked out at the other fitness center for 7 years which was a “kettlebell boot camp”, I quickly realized I had not been working to my full potential. For me it was like starting from ground zero. I was so weak I couldn’t do a plank. It took me a couple of months to get the hang of the routines and to change a lot of incorrect form.

The biggest change for me was when I started the Whole 9 Whole 30 program. I did it for 90 days before I started to reintroduce some foods back into my diet and I still do a modified version of it and haven’t gained the weight back.

Picking stuff up from the floor or ground got a lot easier for me. I used to bend over to pick stuff up now I just squat down, retrieve and I’m up and moving.

My goals are to continue working towards strength and balance. I would also like to get to the point were I’m close to 95% whole foods all the time.

My favorite part of Get Fit is how I feel getting dressed in the morning, everything fits and its a size smaller than a year ago.

Thank you Adam.

Audrey

Hi Adam,

Why did you choose Get Fit NH? My wife and I had been attending a different type of workout in the Concord area for the previous 7 years but the owner had to close due to a change in his daytime job hours. We wanted to continue with some type of workout but expand it into something more varied that included a balance of cardio and weight training. We researched a few places online and felt that, not only did Get Fit NH offer the variation that we wanted, but Get Fit NH would also let us try it at no cost for two weeks. This would give us an opportunity to see if it was the type of workout we wanted to be part of.

What changes did you notice in the first few weeks? We found that we WANTED to go to our workouts because we enjoyed the workout variation so much along with the instructors and the other participants. Next month will be one year since I joined Get Fit NH. About 6 months after I joined, my doctor noticed a big improvement in my overall flexibility during a physical examination, especially in my hips.

What outside of Get Fit NH has become easier since starting? After a few months of steady participation, I noticed that the everyday activities that require a strong core were easier to do. I could actually feel that the strength was coming from my core and not from my lower back. I truly believe that my body learned to shift the need for strength from my lower back to my core, which of course did away with those occasional lower back issues that I had learned to accept as part of life. My wife and I are long time kayakers and the first time that I went kayaking about 3 months after starting the Get Fit NH program, I noticed that my stronger and more disciplined core made kayaking easier and more enjoyable.

What are your goals? To continue participating in this well thought out and disciplined workout for as long as we are in the Concord area.

What have you accomplished so far? I feel that I have added a high level of cardiovascular fitness to my life, something that I was missing. I have always worked to keep my strength up but I did not pay attention to my cardiovascular fitness and my core strength. Get Fit NH has such a well rounded approach to working out along with the dietary classes and guidance that they also make available.

What is your favorite part of Get Fit NH? The whole Get Fit NH experience is my favorite part. As I mentioned previously, I enjoy the varied workouts, the instructors and the other participants very much. Add to that, the number of time slots available to work out, the discipline and timing used by the instructors during the entire workout session, and the cleanliness of the facility make the entire Get Fit NH experience my favorite part.

Eric Hastings”

Keep up the fantastic work and effort!

My New Shoes

Cara is one of our shining superstars in Epsom and here she tells you a little bit about her journey with us:

“Shoes. Many women get excited about new shoes! There are shoes for different outfits! Boots…high heels…sandals…the list goes on! We talk and laugh about shoe addictions! I remember some of my favorite shoes which represent moments in time. Some of my favorites my shoeswere my shoes I wore on my wedding day…and shoes I wore at my college graduation…I LOVED those shoes. My babies first shoes. Some represent memories, milestones, and emotions tied to special events in our lives. Since those mile stones some very special shoes found their way in my life. The shoes I bought when I began to take my health seriously. They are just an average pair of sneakers but represent so much more to me.
Looking back , my journey began after 2010 when I had reached my highest weight ever close to 300 pounds. Take a good look at that picture, it’s not pretty. Today I’m over 100 pounds down . I started with Get Fit NH July 2013 after spending a year trying to move more, walk and build a foundation so I could even get into a gym without dying. I didn’t buy any new shoes for that. I just thought I would try . The workouts absolutely leveled me to dust each day. I hurt a lot and it was difficult to move both in and out of the gym. I was sore for weeks.
It was the coacheme before 2010s and my classmates cheering me on that kept me from walking out. About 3 months in I decided my old falling apart shoes were not cutting it and bought some new shoes. They represented hope and the possibility of reaching my next goal. They gave me strength and energy to power through to the end of those last seconds of each part of the workout. They held me up, and got me step by step to each goal I set.

Although I was attached to those shoes, I recently retired them to the basement into the pile of yard work/camping/other shoes. They have lost their tread, shape, and are more like a sock now and an old best friend. They will still be there if I need them, but they have a new purpose now.

I have new shoes now. They are bright pink and happy, light and springy. They hang on to my feet so I can keep working hard. I have separate shoes for the gym , shoes for hiking, and shoes for runningme today 2016. All 3 are my favorite new shoes. These shoes are all about that what I once thought was impossible, is now possible. They are about where I am going next, the mountains I have yet to climb, and the miles to run and walk…and to keep pushing forward. I would and could give away every other shoe in my life to have just the ones I need to move in …to continue to keep moving forward in my steps to a healthier me.

Cara”

Keep up the great work, Cara!

Yet Another Awesome Spotlight

This week I am pleased to share Carlene’s success interview with you! Carlene is pretty humble, so I am going to take the opportunity to really shout out how far this woman has come. I think your jaw will drop too. You will read in the interview that Carlene says she has lost about 20 pounds, but let me put that in perspective for you and for her too.

Carlene is good about having her body composition done regularly. Since her first body composition in September she has lost 22 pounds of fat. Yes, that is 22 pounds of excess fat. The kind we all want to go away! She is making that happen. Oh and lean weight? Yeah, she has 8 new pounds of lean weight- 3 of those pounds being muscle! Forget about pounds for a minute and let’s talk about body fat. Carlene has dropped 9% body fat since September.

How is she doing it? Hear it from her!

– Why did you seek out Get Fit NH?

I wanted to get into a regular exercise routine, because at the time, I wasn’t doing much of anything, and I’m not disciplined enough to do things on my own!

-What did you learn after your first two weeks/since you have been training with Get Fit NH?

So many things! I know in the first two weeks, I realized that my body wasn’t in the shape my mind thought it was in. I had to mentally accept where I was, and work with that. I’ve also learned that I’m generally a pretty competitive person, but the best thing for me is to compete with myself, and not compare myself to the people around me. Once I was able to do that, I’m able to accept myself for where I am, and where I can be, and know that it’s just steady persistence to get there. I still sometimes wish I could do things that others around me can do, but I also know I’m doing more than I was doing when I first started. It also feels good to encourage people who are new to keep at it, and they’ll see themselves improve.

-What results have you seen since training with Get Fit NH?

I’ve lost about 20 or so pounds, but I can also tell that my core strength has gotten MUCH better! I’ve surprised myself with what I’ve been able to do in my last couple of workouts! For example, I was able to hold myself over the chin bar for two seconds and slowly come down for almost three sets! I did it without even thinking about it the first time around. That’s an improvement over just holding myself up when I first started! I’m really looking forward to the weather being more consistent so that I can get out and ride my bike—I think I’ll see a big difference right away that I’ll be able to go longer distances and up more hills much sooner than I was able to when I started riding last season.

– How did you earn those results?

I’ve built my morning routine around making sure I come in to train every morning. I think I’ve only missed a session three times since December, and that was because I was sick. When I come in, I know I’m going to challenge myself to do the best that I can do, no matter how I feel. Also, I did the 21-day jumpstart detox in January, and that helped me get on track with nutrition. I learned that I can’t eat a lot of carbs or else I get off the rails and start gaining again. Proteins make my workouts go SO MUCH better!!

Why do you continue to train at Get Fit NH?

I enjoy the people in my class, and I like the way I’m getting a full body workout without having to think about it. I enjoy the variety of things that we do, and that I never know what we’re going to do until I walk in the door. I also want to train to do a century ride at this year’s Pedaling for Payson, so I need to keep up the strength in order to do that

– What would you want to tell someone who is thinking about starting?
carlene

I’ve been telling people that it’s really fun, because there are a wide variety of things that we do. I really appreciate the fact that the coaches are very attentive to making sure that injuries don’t happen by focusing on each individual’s form and range of motion. Even with a big class, there’s still a lot of individual attention. This isn’t like any other gym … everyone there, coaches and clients, wants everyone to succeed.

Carlene is a superstar. I absolutely love her work ethic and positive energy. She brings so many smiles to our 7:25 family. Carlene has taken advantage of all of the tools and you can too! I am so incredibly proud of Carlene and her dedication to get better!

Keep making it happen!

A Spotlight Read Through Tears

fingerprint-with-question-mark_318-42454 copyI don’t like to cry. I also dare you to have read this and not shed a tear. A tear because this is real life. This is a life shared with me. A life that has hurts and pain, struggles and shadows, along with joys unspeakable. This story is laid out openly for us to feel, see, and experience as we read the pain of struggle for years. The life is real, but for now the identity is secret.

“It’s complicated. My relationship with food, exercise, and general health has always been complicated and exhausting. I was one of those kids who, one day realized I was different. I had no idea until I went to school and I was called names and was ostracized because I didn’t look like my peers. I was fat. I didn’t even know why I was fat – I was only 5 years old at the time! But I was, and it gave people license to focus on my appearance and comment without any regard for how that might make a child feel. My parents started me on my first diet at the young age of 6. I ate eggs, bacon and wheat germ each morning and for the rest of the day drank some kind of concoction with nutmeg in it. I lost weight quickly – almost as quickly as I lost interest in this crash diet. I still can’t stand the smell of nutmeg and it’s been 54 years. They wanted to help me and did the best they could, spending lots of their hard earned money on weight watchers, diet centers, exercise programs, etc. My weight became a focal point for them and an obsession for me. My life consisted of dieting, starving, binging, losing weight, gaining weight, exercising in a healthy manner and exercising compulsively. My weight and body sized fluctuated greatly and my self-worth was associated with my appearance and the number on the scale. It was a hard life and as I aged, I kept losing the battle. I didn’t think about my health and to be honest, just didn’t care. When I would lose weight, my father would ask me if I felt better and I would tell him that I did, but I really didn’t. I just felt a frenzied need to not be fat so I could be as good as everyone else. Otherwise I was different and a walking target for people to verbally shoot at.

As I became older I began to look at things differently. The obsessive thoughts of weight and dieting began to lose its fuel and I became somewhat hopeless about my situation. I didn’t know what to do – I couldn’t stick to a diet for very long and if I did manage a short time and lost weight, I would immediately regain the weight and increased body size. It was exhausting and disheartening at the same time. I began to struggle with blood pressure and blood tests indicated the need to monitor my cholesterol and triglyceride numbers as they were above normal. I was challenged with significant body pain and attributed it to arthritis or I thought I might have something like fibromyalgia. I don’t like to go to the doctor in spite of having to go every 6 months for my blood pressure, so I never said much about the body aches. When I did mention it, I was told that it was to do with aging and arthritis.

Several years ago I walked into Get Fit NH in Epsom. I did my 2 week introduction and thought I was going to die. Nancy greeted me with a chipper good morning and a broad smile at 5 am and I immediately thought she must be crazy. I looked around at these people and thought that they were looking at me and judging me. I also could not understand why they were smiling and talking to me. I just wanted to do this and get it over with. Within minutes I realized how out of shape I was and how hard this was going to be for me. I had no idea what planks were and thought that a squat thrust was something indecent! But, I hung in there, even after I threw up out of my nose one morning. I cleaned it up quickly and pretended nothing happened! I also realized that these people were kind and supportive and that Nancy’s positive interaction was genuine and caring. That was interesting to me, but still not enough.

I slipped in and out of Get Fit for a few years and finally returned about a year ago. I still struggle with training consistently and the physical and emotional issues around my weight, but I am beginning to understand what Get Fit is offering. It’s up to me to accept it. There are so many classes and groups that provide a support system and assurance that I am not alone in this struggle. The focus on health has been a huge shift for me. I still struggle with my weight, but at this point I actually care about my health. I am taking my test results more seriously – something my doctor is happy about and something my dad would be relieved with. Last August I had a blood test and the results were concerning. For the first time, I saw the word Pre-diabetes in the results. My glucose levels were at a 110 and although it did not suggest Diabetes, it did indicate that if behaviors were not changed it is likely that I would be dealing with this in a few years, if not sooner. That scared me. No-one in my family has ever had diabetes and I don’t want to be the first, if it is something I can avoid with life style change.

In November I participated in the 21 day detox. I found it challenging but I learned a great deal and continue with many practices from it. Dairy is nearly nonexistent in my diet now. I drink lemon with water each day and I drink a great deal of water daily. I try to stick with a Protein Produce & Water template, but will be the first to admit that I am not as disciplined as I should be. I try to go to training at least twice a week and I try to walk on the other days. I do the best that I can. I don’t go on diets anymore; I work on habits with Nancy and my group.

My body aches have diminished and it is so much easier for me to move than before. I just received my newest blood test results and would like to share the comparison from August 2015 to February 2016. In August my total cholesterol was 237 and it is now 194. My LDL Cholesterol was 152 and it is now 124. My Triglycerides were 177 and they are now 112. Best of all, my glucose was 110 and it is now within a normal range at 88. Although the glucose surge had been new, the cholesterol and triglycerides were an ongoing problem and I am shocked and delighted to see the changes.

Get Fit NH, Nancy, and my peers are the stable force in the craziness of my weight and health issues. They are unwavering, dependable, and supportive. I can bounce back and forth, but I can always come back to their unconditional acceptance and understanding. There is no judgement or criticism. For me, Get Fit NH is a safe place.

As I said at the beginning, it’s complicated. But today I am hopeful and not hopeless. I am energized and not exhausted. I am empowered and not victimized. And if my dad were alive today, I would delightfully say “Yes Dad, I REALLY do feel better!!””

Read this again. Do you see yourself in any of this story? Encourage this person, encourage yourself, encourage me, and encourage others. Share your story. There is strength in numbers.

The Spotlight is Shining Again!

This week’s spotlight is shining on Karen Juall. Karen has made major strides since joining us here at Get Fit NH. She has made a habit of coming in consistently and taking advantage of the tools available to her. Here are some of her own words about the changes that have occurred for her since joining Get Fit NH.
karen juall spotlight
“My shoulder pain is practically gone! Between the expertise on specific movements and CJ, I can now work-out with almost no pain in my right shoulder! This makes me energized and confident in the GFNH coaches.

So many previous times, I joined exercise classes only to stop because of pain/injury – they pushed me too hard – I was left to myself – no one cared to help me work through it in such a way as you did. I am amazed not only with the fact that I have almost 0 pain now, but that I have achieved this miracle by still working-out!

I credit GFNH, especially Meagan, who quickly referred me to CJ who I am still not finished with. Quite an impressive TEAM, all of you!

When it came to the ladders, I went from being totally inept to being able to jump all the way through – and I did it several times!

All of you are so accepting of my limitations while continuing to help me with proper form. I’m in awe of your collective abilities.

My MyZone has given me the confidence to stress my heart and watch it come down. Remember the day when I was dizzy and had to sit down? I have come a long way in a short time. You guys are miracle workers!!”

I am extremely proud of how far Karen has come and how hard she has worked at it. Great Job Karen and keep up the good work!

The Spotlight is Shining!

The spotlight is shining bright on 4:15 superstar, Vickie Carrier. If you have ever trained at 4:15 you have probably heard Vickie’s contagious laugh, clapping push ups and encouragement to those around her. She is known for keeping the boys in her corner in line and directing them to the next exercise. Vickie is a leader and an inspiration to many. She is constantly challenging her neighbors and is so determined to be the best. Vickie has accepted every challenge I have thrown at her and excelled at so much. I am so thankful that Vickie chose to check out Get Fit NH. She is a valuable part of this family and I think you will find her story pretty inspiring!vickie

“Last year in April I was asked by a friend if I would be interested in participating in a Spartan Super race (8+ miles long). I didn’t even know what a Spartan race was or what one consisted of and so initially I was hesitant and unsure. But then if any of you know me, I’m always up for a challenge so I agreed, figuring, “what do I have loose?”

So after doing a little research, I realized I was going to have to focus more on my physical strength and endurance. I felt like I was in good shape. I was working out independently at a gym 6 days a week attending one supervised class that provided me with guidance on building up endurance, but the rest was on my own.

As the June race date got closer I started to get nervous and began searching for other training options. I had a friend mention Get fit NH to me back in February but the timing was never right, and then another friend said they use to workout there before they moved. So in May I made the call and spoke to Nancy who was very friendly, she set me up with Coach Meagan for a meeting.

Meagan tested me and we went through the initial screening process. She asked what my goals were and I told her I needed to do more weight training to prepare for a race I signed up for. I was still attending another gym so I chose the two day a week option.

Initially I was a fish out of water, I was use to working out by myself and getting results. Now there were lots of people in a room. Erin was my coach and I loved her sense of humor but down to business attitude. I loved the fact that somebody was constantly checking my form to keep me injury free so I could focus on the exercise and pushing myself harder, and for the days that I needed it they would motivate me to add more weight or do the next level of an exercise. Now instead of me pushing alone toward my goals I had a team of experts helping me out.

I performed my first race and finished in the top 50% for my age group. Not bad for the first time. Then I got this idea, wouldn’t it be great to do one race of each length, 3 total, to get a trifecta medal? But of course! The next race was scheduled for September at Killington Mountain. They say the race can be 14+ miles, well I can tell you first hand it was just shy of 19.5 miles. It’s probably a good thing I didn’t know this before the race, since I already knew I needed to up my training at the gym.

I became more focused on building strength and muscle, I talked to Coach Adam and Coach Meagan and asked for pointers on how to improve grip strength and honestly looked forward to days with farmers walk, sleds pushes, pull ups and burpees. I became religious about body comp days and making sure to intact enough protein. I was on a mission to be ready for this race.

I finished the second race in 9 hours but still at the 50% of my age group. It was a long day, but it was an amazing feeling. Not only were the views spectacular but so were the people on the course. If I wasn’t training at Get Fit NH I honestly do not believe I would have achieved those same results. I was fitter, stronger, leaner, and more conditioned after six months of training just two days a week at Get Fit NH, imagine what four days a week would do?

I finished my final race in November. It was a sprint, a walk in the park after a beast, right? I injured my wrist doing burpees after jumping rope, and got tennis elbow along the way, can you believe it? All the coaches were great on my return, we modified some exercises but I continued to build strength.

Shortly after the last race I finally became a full time member at Get Fit NH. It wasn’t because I questioned if it was the right place, because by this time I knew it was exactly where I was suppose to be, I simply had to play by the old gym’s rules to get my pardon to leave.

I’ve been at Get Fit NH less than a year and the coaches here know me better than the ones at the gym I spent my last eight years at. The coaches at Get Fit NH not only know my name, they understand my personal goals, they now what motivates me to push me harder and when I’ve asked for additional exercises or drills to improve my race performance they think about it and come back with solutions. I don’t know where else you can go to get this.

With all the educational seminars, gatherings and group activities you eventually begin to feel like a family. The familiar faces now have names, and on the days we don’t have workouts I truly don’t just miss the workouts but my Get Fit NH friends and family.

Just because I’m fit doesn’t mean I’m not challenged at Get Fit NH. My weight might not change much, but my body fat and muscle mass have and continue to do so. The new 3D scan, while daunting initially is another great tool that Coach Dean has brought on board. Get Fit NH not only provides great coaches but great tools to help everyone, no matter what your exercise level is, to achieve great goals. Thank you to all the coaches and yes a shout out to my 4:15 family that make working out fun and rewarding and for that I’m thankful.

Cheers
Vickie”

So there you have it! Vickie came to us in great shape and has still managed to get great results. At her most recent body composition we found that she has dropped 5.3% bodyfat and gained 2.5 pounds of lean muscle and that is only since May! We are so proud of her and all of her hardwork and dedication!
Keep making is happen,
Coach Meagan

Bright Lights are Shining on Sonia

Sonia Cormier grayIn July 2013, when I came to Get Fit I was at my highest weight ever, didn’t like what I saw in the mirror and I was tired of feeling sick all the time. I had to keep buying bigger clothes. And then there was the acid reflux medication I was taking for the last 10 years, I didn’t want to take it any longer, for one it was expensive and two the list of side effects was scary, miss a dose or two and I was miserable for the next 2 days. Enough was enough, I just had to do something, I couldn’t stand myself anymore.

I was so nervous walking through those doors that first time, I knew I wasn’t going to be able to keep up or even do half of what they wanted me to do. I never participated in group sports or activities of any kind and it had been years since I did any sort of regular exercise. I was afraid I was going to walk in and see all these ‘gym’ type people, all in perfect shape. But it wasn’t that way at all, there were people of all shapes, sizes, different fitness levels. Coach Nancy and everyone else were so nice, helpful and supportive. With Coach Nancy’s help I was able to modify the exercises so that I was able to do them. No one there knew me but they cheered me on, told me I was doing great and helped when I didn’t have a clue. And they notice when you don’t show up, keeping you accountable.

photo-140
After the first week I knew I could keep doing this, it wasn’t easy but it was fun and more important I wanted to continue. I felt like I belonged there, like I was part of a family, everyone is looking out for each other and challenging each other. My clothes started getting looser; I could go up and down the 2 flights of stairs in my house and not be out of breath. I had more energy and wasn’t so tired anymore. I had to have my husband make new holes in my belt several times, and I still have it as a reminder of where I was. It wasn’t just about the exercise, they also taught me about nutrition and how important it is, most of which I knew but was not practicing or changing habits. It’s when I started taking part in the nutrition challenges that the weight really started to come off. Because I changed the way I was eating, by November of 2013 I was no longer taking the acid reflux medication and that was a huge milestone for me.
photo-138I’m in my third year now and I can’t imagine not coming to Get Fit every day at 6:15am. It’s the best part of my day, it’s only for me, my time to take care of myself and not worry about anyone or anything else, except of course which heavier weight I’m going to pick up next and when I can ring that bell again. Last year I signed up for The Rock & Race, The Color Run, Get Fit’s Strong Man/Woman competition, the Mudderella, to name a few. Things I never would have imagined I would or could do. I can’t wait for the next challenge.

gutsy gals1My favorite part of coming to Get Fit is the coaches and the other members, they make it fun, we are a family and we all look out for each other. Coach Nancy challenges me to pick up heavier and she genuinely cares how I am progressing. I never thought I could be this athletic, I didn’t know I had it in me. I’m stronger and more confident, in and out of the gym, than I ever imagined. I’m so happy I took that chance and signed up for the FREE 2 week trial period. If I can do this anyone can!

Another Spotlight! This One is Shining on…

Molly Crisman!

On to my second spotlight – it is a pleasure to write about another extremely hardworking student. Molly has taken the program by storm and pushed herself to get better. Every time she is in the room, she is always pushing herself and getting as much as she can every single session. In my opinion, it is not only those who have achieved their goal, but also those who are well on the way that deserve to be applauded. It’s one thing to say you want to do something, get healthier, lose fat, gain muscle, whatever it is you desire. It is another thing entirely to come in and work your butt off every single time to get there, which is exactly what Molly does. Here is Molly’s story in her own words:

“I first started with GFNH back in October 2015 after months of my dad trying to convince me to join. With commuting to work 4+ hours a day, I always had an excuse as to why I could never join. Once I changed to a job much closer in October (and after gaining 20+ pounds), I knew it was time for me to make my health a priority. I also had the added pressure that my wedding was right around the corner, and my dress had become a little snug (a bride’s worst nightmare!). My dad has always spoken so highly of the Get Fit NH team that I figured I’d give it a shot!

My first few classes at GFNH were rough. I was extremely out of shape, always sore, and could barely complete the one hour workout. What has really helped me (and continues to help), is always having my dad there to keep me accountable. We motivate each other to push past our comfort zones. The coaches at GFNH have also been instrumental to my success. Each coach took the time to get to know me and continues to encourage me day in and day out. For me, the accountability of my dad and the coaches is what keeps me coming to class each day.

After the first few weeks of being sore (I never knew how sore I could get!), I saw some major changes in myself, both physically and mentally. I felt stronger, leaner, and my stamina had dramatically increased. I was sleeping much better and would wake up with a lot more energy. How awesome is that? Those small changes were a huge motivation to keep going.

After 5 months I can honestly say that working out at GFNH has been life changing. I have settled into a routine that has set me up for success. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely have days where all I want to do is sit on my couch and eat junk food, but the family environment at GFNH gives me the motivation to keep coming back. We all rely on each other for success. Here’s to hoping that dress fits me in June!”

I can tell you right now that with how hard Molly works every single training session, she will get there, no doubt.
