3 Reasons Friday Training Matters

3 reasons Fridays are Important

1.) Mentality- Probably the most important part of why training is important is the mentality or the mental strength that is required to do so.  Also on the flip side what you are reinforcing to yourself if you skip it.  I'm not talking about skipping one Friday if something comes up and you just can't make it, I am talking about Fridays upon Fridays of skipping.  It teaches, even if it's just subconsciously, that its ok to not finish what you start.  That after three days it “ok close enough”, that is a dangerous sentiment to have, it’s the same as taking the opportunity to do 21 days of clean eating and on day 20 saying “well I made it 20 how big of a difference is 1 day going to make”.  Nutritionally and training wise maybe not much, at first, however it’s a slippery slope at first its one week.  Then the next week you think “I skipped Friday and felt fine, don’t really feel like going this week either” then the trend continues.  Missing one class might not have a huge impact on training but if that trend continues that’s 4 classes a month and 48 classes a year.   Don’t give yourself an excuse to not finish what you started, it starts with one thing, but we are all humans, if we give ourselves and inch we will take a mile.  It may start with training, but before you know it it’s bleeding over into nutrition and general life responsibilities.

2.) Training- The programming at Get Fit NH is designed to affect your system in different ways to elicit and overall training response.  Many of you already know this but training is written as 2 days of Metabolic work (most closely resembling cardiovascular training) and 2 days of strength work.  That means that the training is written to work as a whole balanced program over a weeks span, so missing a Friday leads to an unbalanced week of training.  For the best training effect we have to take advantage of all of it.  Can you really tell me that missing 48 trainings in a year won't affect you?

3.) A general sense of accomplishment, its no secret that Fridays trainings are challenging, and on Friday you are tired, stressed, and ready to end your week as soon as possible.  The sense of accomplishment you will feel after making sure you gave it your absolute all and saw the week through to the end will be great.

Fridays are important too, don’t give yourself and excuse, it probably will not stop there!

Get Fit NH houses 3 women recognized by NH Women’s Foundation

The New Hampshire Women's Foundation is recognizing about 100 women in New Hampshire who made a difference in the community through the pandemic. The recognition is for various reasons such as leadership, caregivers, front line workers, educators, community impact members and more!

Other people in the community nominated these women and the Nh Women's Foundation is hosting a Gala in May to recognize these woman and share their stories.

I am honored to be one of the women nominated for this recognition, but what I really love is that there are 2 other faithful clients of Get Fit NH who were also nominated.

Please take a few minutes to read the nominations below! We have a pretty respectable community here at Get Fit NH.

Youth Training Round 2 Sign Ups OPEN

We just wrapped up youth training this past Saturday. The weeks FLEW by and kids had a total blast. They got to spend 6 Saturdays moving their body, engaging with other kids and having fun. What more could you ask for?

Our kids have been forced to work in front of a screen for the last year for education, pair that with leisurely screen time and we are setting our kids up for a lifetime of harmful habits. Kids need to move and they need interaction with other kids AND other adults. I think every parent ever is blown away by how their child  conducts themselves in the absence of mom and dad calling the shots, am I right!?!

The youth program is any chance to learn new ways to move our body and package those movements in different ways that are exciting and competitive within themselves. Youth training is a great way for your children to build confidence and crave movement.

Think obstacle courses, games and circuits that keep them on their toes and working hard. Hard work in the gym translates into strong work ethic and builds character. This round we are taking ages 6-16!

Parents, feel free to reserve your spot for your 6-11 year old child here. They will train at 9 AM every Saturday for 6 weeks starting April 3rd.

12-16 year old signs up are here. They will train at 10 AM every Saturday for 6 weeks starting April 3rd.

We can only take TEN kids per class. There is a minimum of 5 kids required in order to do the class. If we do not meet the minimum we will refund promptly! I do expect the 6-11 group to fill up quickly so make sure you reserve your spot!

Our big announcement was revealed this morning! We are SO excited to share this. You all know surprises are not my strong suit. Check out the recorded Zoom call for the official announcement or just scroll through the pictures and see if you can figure it out before I type it way at the bottom!

Here is the recording

Did you guess?

We are moving! As you can imagine COVID-19 and the restrictions in place have severely impacted how we run our business. While this is understandable it is not sustainable. As most of you have figured out we are operating at 50% capacity indoors and come snow fall that just doesn't work. We are committed to your safety and your comfort. We are not comfortable stretching any limits of the regulations in place. When we put our heads together we understood that social distancing is not going anywhere for the foreseeable future and the best option to continue to stay afloat and grow is to move out of our 4000 sf training space and into a 9,600 sf training space! This will allow us to have our regular full training occupancy while maintaining 12-15 feet between clients! This space also features 2 overhead doors for air flow and an exhaust fan. We can't think of a better solution to keep pushing forward. There is plenty of parking behind the building and there is a conveniently an entrance behind the building as well. .

Oh and did you want the other good news?

They're building us showers! Yep, two of them.

Oh, you want more good news?

We are going to have a physical therapist and a massage therapist in house by 2021! Just a reminder 2021 is only 3.5 months away, can I get an amen?

Oh my goodness, you want more cool news?

We are going to build one these medball brick wall in 2021. This is relevant info as you will see below in a moment....

So that is the news! But don't X out yet...

Making this move was in our 10 year plan. It was more of a goal to buy a building, but we are no where near being ready for that. It does remain in the 10 year plan. This is very expensive decision. We are sucking up our pride and asking for help with a twist if you feel so compelled. If you would like to donate to this move then we are welcoming that and have set up a few tiers as a token of appreciation. If we got 200 people to donate $20 that would cover 1/5 of the cost to move and it would help tremendously.

Donation tiers

Tier 1: $10 + We will put your name into a drawing to win a gift card to Tuckers

Tier 2: $25+ We will put your name into a drawing to win a gift certificate to Intuitive Touch for a one hour massage

Tier 3: 50+ We will put your name in both raffles and we will engrave your name in a brick when we build our med ball brick wall

If you wish to donate to this new, exciting adventure then you can do so here. Your generosity is always appreciated <3 Thank you for your continued support!

DONATE HERE

Our goal is to be operating out of the new space by Monday, November 2, 2020. This location is located at 41 Terrill Park Drive in Concord which is 2 miles from our current location.

Committed to making it happen,

Meagan

Your Perspective is Powerful

I was truly amazed at how many life lessons there were in the podcast I listened to that interviewed Colin O’Brady.  After racing for 6 years with the USA Triathlon Team, O’Brady decided he wanted to take on a new challenge which was crossing Antarctica.  O’Brady describes that the journey was extremely challenging because there are no opportunities to resupply food. He had to pack everything he needed for the journey on his sled which weighed 375lbs.  O’Brady’s desire was to step into something unknown because growth happens when you are outside of your comfort zone. O’Brady states that the journey broke him to his core. He walked 12 hours a day for over 50 days without taking a rest day.  Right before the finish line, O’Brady wanted to quit. On the 53rd day he realized he was only 77 miles from the finish.  O’Brady was broken physically and mentally but found a place inside himself that said he was stronger than ever.  He ended up walking the last 77 miles for 32 hours straight. O’Brady believes that everyone has the ability to push themselves, their body and their brain in ways they never thought possible.  When you can look back on something immensely difficult that you accomplished or achieved in the past, it can fuel you and be the motivations to get through your current challenge.

O’Brady believes that life experiences are on a continuum of 1-10, 1 being the worst day or the most pain and 10 being the best day.  He believes that most people are staying within the comfort zone of 4-6 because they are trying not to experience the 1’s. However, to experience the 10’s you also have to experience the 1’s.  You can learn many lessons from the 1’s that help you reach the 10’s. The definition of 1’s and 10’s may change throughout your life. Making it through hardships allows you to look at challenges differently.  You may think this is hard right now but remember you have made it through worse. For many years my 1 was having to go through shoulder surgeries and give up playing soccer. Fast forward 20 years and my new 1 was admitting I was in an incredibly dark place and spending 2 weeks in a hospital.  When I am faced with challenges now, such as the 21-day nutrition challenge, I am reminded that I was able to tackle and survive some huge challenges in my life. If I made it through that then I can make it through 21 days of giving up food that is not good for my body. What are your 1’s? Use the lessons from that time to remind yourself that you are stronger thank you think, and you can make it through any challenge you currently face.

March Movement Challenge

Are your competitive hats on? We bringing back the March Madness sled push challenge!

Here are the details:

When: The sled push challenge will start March 2nd and run until March 20th

What is it: The sled push challenge is going to be a class competition with the winning class being the team that does the most sled pushes. Each class will keep score individually on an index card and each class will have a box to keep their cards in. At the end of the month we will count up the total amount of sled pushes and the class with the best average will win! This means the more people you can get to do it the better!

How do I score points: You get one point for every sled push down and back on the green. You must complete both ways to score a point!

Why should I do this: Well the best answer I can give you is it is good for your health! The most important thing is building better and stronger bodies! Also if that is not incentive enough there will be a class prize for the winning team! We have done Taco Tuesday, Glow Stick Training, and many other fun things so you will not want to miss out!

If you have any other questions please let your coach know! We will meet you at the sled!

Football, Goals, Determination…

Determination can be defined as “a positive emotional feeling that involves persevering towards a difficult goal in spite of obstacles. J.J. Watt from the Houston Texans has shown some incredible determination in the face of obstacles. Watt played for the first time in the Wildcard game against the Buffalo Bills after tearing his pectoral in week eight. His injury was thought to be season ending. Watt asked his doctors if there was a chance he could return for the playoffs if the Texans made it that far. The doctor said there was a chance it would be possible. Watt said that was all he needed to hear. He was determined to be game ready if Houston made it to the playoffs. Watt’s performance in their win against Buffalo was impressive to say the least. He played with intense determination to help put his team in the best place to win. Watt could have eased himself back into the game in an effort to protect his pectoral. Instead he was played without reservation and had laser focus.

What would happen if we approached our health and fitness goals with the same determination? If I have a goal to lose 30 lbs in the next three months and someone told me it was possible then I would need some serious determination to meet that goal. There are going to be obstacles and I am going to have to make sacrifices. I will not reach my goal by playing it safe. I have to be all in and persevere through the tough times. What are your goals and how determined are you to achieve them? Are you playing it safe or are you all in? The good news
is that you are not in it alone! You have your Get Fit NH Family to support you every step of the way!
