Pumpkin Training is Coming

Have you been here SO long that you have experienced a Get Fit NH pumpkin training??

...I haven't! But I cannot WAIT to see what is entails. Coach Dean is pretty talented when it comes to writing training programs so I can't even imagine what he'll throw together with a pumpkin!

On Monday, October 31st we're going to do pumpkin training, so guess what you need?

Yep - a pumpkin! Bring one to your regular training hour and regular location and let's see what we can do with these things!

-Coach Meagan

We’re Giving Away $1000 – Want Some?

How's THAT for some cool news on a Monday?

Yes,  you read that correctly! Our fall through end of year challenge has been established and we are excited to get it rolled out. It doesn't cost you a thing except for time and commitment. If you can handle those two things then you could have some extra spending cash this holiday season. Keep reading...

Let's start with the purpose of this challenge and then we'll get into the rules. Let's refer to this challenge as, "Show up, Step up, Stick it up"

This challenge is all about keeping you motivated through the seasonal stress, encourage you to build the FIT3D to your regular schedule and help you follow through with your goals. It is important for you to stay on track through the holiday season. We know you don't want you to put on the national average of 10 lbs from October to December. So we're going to help you stay on track by staying accountable! Let's dive into the rules. Every awesome challenge with awesome prizes has to have rules and regulations!

  • Show up: There are 56 opportunities to train between September 12, 2016 (start date) and December 16, 2016 (end date). In order qualify to win you must attend 50 sessions AND check in to Facebook each session. This piece will need to be initialed by a coach each training with proof of check in.
  • Step up: You must complete a FIT3D scan once per calendar month (1 each in Sep. Oct. Nov. and Dec.) in order to qualify for the win. Just let us know you did it so we can verify and initial your card. The scans can be done anytime of the month between the start and end date.
  • Stick it up: This will be a monthly requirement in order to be qualified for the win. Each month we ask ya'll to put a goal up on the "Goal Board." The weeks of Sept 12th, October 3rd, November 1st and December 5th you must show your coach your goal and stick it up to the board. This will be a separate initial on your card that you coach will take care of.

ENOUGH WITH THE RULES WHAT DO I WIN?

On December 16th the challenge will end and we will collect all of the cards. The cards are by 7:45 PM December 19th no exceptions. We will check to make sure all the required info is there, and all of the qualified cards will be entered into a drawing for some CASH MONEY PRIZES!

The first card drawn gets $500 CASH

The second card drawn will get $300 CASH

The third card drawn will get $200 CASH

THAT'S $1000 that we are giving away just for showing up, stepping up and sticking it up. Who else does that? Not to mention during the holiday season we could all use a little extra green!

We’re taking the spotlight to Texas

One of the hardest things about being a coach is saying goodbye. Whether that means choosing to leave and not train with us anymore or moving to Texas! It does not get easier. We truly pour our hearts into this career and to each and every one of you. It would be a lie if we said it doesn’t sting each time someone tells us they are leaving for any reason.

Ronald and Donna Weilnau have been faithful students for years. We have known of their retirement plans for a long time. I cannot believe June 2016 is really here and they are really packed up and headed to retirement In Texas. We are so excited for their future and being near their family, but we are so sad to see them leave the Get Fit Family. I asked them to kick off our first success story Couple’s Edition before they go. Here is what they have to say.

    1.) Who started training first?

Donna: I started first. It took Ronald 2 1/2 years to get on board.donnaW

2.) What prompted spouse (Ronald) to give it a try?

Donna: Ron decided to join the year we did Reach the Beach. While he was
waiting at the gym for us to return he decided that it didn’t look as
intimidating as he thought it would be. Also I believe that night I had
told you I wished he would join. So he fulfilled that wish finally.

Ronald: Also she never pressured me, I was finally ready to try.

3.) What results have you each experienced since training with us?

Donna: For me it was the realization that I wasn’t doing my body any good
and that something had to change. Since I started training I have lost
weight, not all that I need to lose but I’ll get there and I’ve gone down
two sizes. I am stronger and have more energy.

Ronald: I finally found success to my long time struggle to lose weight. I
also found true enjoyment in training that lead me to my TFW training. Plus
    I found I like a lot more vegetables.ronald

4.) How has training together affected your home life?

Donna: Since we don’t train at the same time we have had to make some
adjustments. When Ron first started I would retire long before him. Since
I train at 5AM and he trains at 5:30 in the afternoon he could stay up
later. In the evenings I had to learn to eat alone as he wouldn’t return
home until 7. It sometimes meant two different meals. For the most part
    we have adjusted.

Ronald: Less time is spent in front of the TV and computer. More energy to
do physical activites. Also meals are easier since I now that I eat more
like Donna has for many years, PPW. Plus with me joining Donna is eating better and
does not have to include cookies on the grocery list for me anymore!

5.) Any additional comments and encouragement you would like to share with
    other students.

Donna: My advice to others would be to not give up. Practice doesn’t
always make perfect but then no one is perfect and no one expects
perfection. Life is a constant struggle. You can’t beat yourself up if
you have a bad day or even a bad week. Put it behind you and start again.

Ronald: Nutrition has been a big part of my weight loss success. Also
listen to the coaches when they say pick up something heavy, I know I am
getting results by doing so and seeing strength I never had before.

A “Thank You” to all of the Get Fit NH coaches and fellow students for
helping us to “Make It Happen”. We will miss our Get Fit NH family as we
move to our next chapter of life in Texas and continue with our fitness
    goals.

    Thank you,
    Ronald and Donna.

I am so proud of these two for supporting each other over the years. They have both made significant progress and it has been honor to witness their growth. Good luck to you both and thank you for choosing to train with us. You will forever be a part of the Get Fit NH Family.

    IMPORTANT: Schedule Change For Rock-N-Race

rock n raceCan you believe it is almost May! When did that happen? May is an exciting month around here with S3 in full speed and the Rock N’ Race 5K. If you have not signed up for the Rock N’ Race then we would love to have you on our team. We pick up the t-shirts and bibs on Tuesday morning and they are ready for distribution by that afternoon. That way you don’t have to wait in the crazy lines when you get there!

If you train in the afternoons then please take note that we close down on that Thursday May 19th. We want EVERYONE to get behind this race and all that it stands for. Cancer has probably affected your life to some degree so let’s get out there and support the Payson Center. You can sign up with Get Fit NH and Beat Cancer using this link.

2016 Rock N Race Is Here: Let’s Do This!

We have you covered though! If you are an afternoon student then we are going to have all regular afternoon training times on Wednesday May 18th! We will be doing the same training as Thursday, so morning students don’t try and double up (you know it is tempting!) Thursday morning training times will remain the same.

Mark your calendar so you don’t forget. We appreciate your flexibility while we go out and support the Payson Center!

    Make it Happen,
    Your Coaches

    March Madness Epsom Style

March Madness isn’t just for Basketball

photo-145During the month of March we turned up the action in Get Fit NH Concord and Epsom. Things were hopping and a bit crazy. For the first time ever Concord had a challenge completely different from Epsom.

In Epsom each training time battled against all other training times in a sled push challenge. While we had some veterans push the 135 – pound sled, others pushed for the very first time. What a great feeling to drive that much weight down the length of the gym and back. For each lap they earned points for their team. As a coach there isn’t a better feeling than seeing huge numbers rack up as the month went on. There were numbers from 2,565 pounds to 76,275 pounds pushed through the whole month. Dan from the 6:15 training time pushed the most with 565 laps during the whole month. The prize? Take home dinner cooked by Coach Nancy. Team 6pm won this challenge with a total of 1928 laps pushed and a whopping total of 259,200 pounds pushed in March. With that number they would have pushed 43,200 elephants back and forth in the gym. Now that is Madness.

Congratulations to all. And enjoy your dinner 6 pm!

    The Spotlight is Shining!

The spotlight is shining bright on 4:15 superstar, Vickie Carrier. If you have ever trained at 4:15 you have probably heard Vickie’s contagious laugh, clapping push ups and encouragement to those around her. She is known for keeping the boys in her corner in line and directing them to the next exercise. Vickie is a leader and an inspiration to many. She is constantly challenging her neighbors and is so determined to be the best. Vickie has accepted every challenge I have thrown at her and excelled at so much. I am so thankful that Vickie chose to check out Get Fit NH. She is a valuable part of this family and I think you will find her story pretty inspiring!vickie

“Last year in April I was asked by a friend if I would be interested in participating in a Spartan Super race (8+ miles long). I didn’t even know what a Spartan race was or what one consisted of and so initially I was hesitant and unsure. But then if any of you know me, I’m always up for a challenge so I agreed, figuring, “what do I have loose?”

So after doing a little research, I realized I was going to have to focus more on my physical strength and endurance. I felt like I was in good shape. I was working out independently at a gym 6 days a week attending one supervised class that provided me with guidance on building up endurance, but the rest was on my own.

As the June race date got closer I started to get nervous and began searching for other training options. I had a friend mention Get fit NH to me back in February but the timing was never right, and then another friend said they use to workout there before they moved. So in May I made the call and spoke to Nancy who was very friendly, she set me up with Coach Meagan for a meeting.

Meagan tested me and we went through the initial screening process. She asked what my goals were and I told her I needed to do more weight training to prepare for a race I signed up for. I was still attending another gym so I chose the two day a week option.

Initially I was a fish out of water, I was use to working out by myself and getting results. Now there were lots of people in a room. Erin was my coach and I loved her sense of humor but down to business attitude. I loved the fact that somebody was constantly checking my form to keep me injury free so I could focus on the exercise and pushing myself harder, and for the days that I needed it they would motivate me to add more weight or do the next level of an exercise. Now instead of me pushing alone toward my goals I had a team of experts helping me out.

I performed my first race and finished in the top 50% for my age group. Not bad for the first time. Then I got this idea, wouldn’t it be great to do one race of each length, 3 total, to get a trifecta medal? But of course! The next race was scheduled for September at Killington Mountain. They say the race can be 14+ miles, well I can tell you first hand it was just shy of 19.5 miles. It’s probably a good thing I didn’t know this before the race, since I already knew I needed to up my training at the gym.

I became more focused on building strength and muscle, I talked to Coach Adam and Coach Meagan and asked for pointers on how to improve grip strength and honestly looked forward to days with farmers walk, sleds pushes, pull ups and burpees. I became religious about body comp days and making sure to intact enough protein. I was on a mission to be ready for this race.

I finished the second race in 9 hours but still at the 50% of my age group. It was a long day, but it was an amazing feeling. Not only were the views spectacular but so were the people on the course. If I wasn’t training at Get Fit NH I honestly do not believe I would have achieved those same results. I was fitter, stronger, leaner, and more conditioned after six months of training just two days a week at Get Fit NH, imagine what four days a week would do?

I finished my final race in November. It was a sprint, a walk in the park after a beast, right? I injured my wrist doing burpees after jumping rope, and got tennis elbow along the way, can you believe it? All the coaches were great on my return, we modified some exercises but I continued to build strength.

Shortly after the last race I finally became a full time member at Get Fit NH. It wasn’t because I questioned if it was the right place, because by this time I knew it was exactly where I was suppose to be, I simply had to play by the old gym’s rules to get my pardon to leave.

I’ve been at Get Fit NH less than a year and the coaches here know me better than the ones at the gym I spent my last eight years at. The coaches at Get Fit NH not only know my name, they understand my personal goals, they now what motivates me to push me harder and when I’ve asked for additional exercises or drills to improve my race performance they think about it and come back with solutions. I don’t know where else you can go to get this.

With all the educational seminars, gatherings and group activities you eventually begin to feel like a family. The familiar faces now have names, and on the days we don’t have workouts I truly don’t just miss the workouts but my Get Fit NH friends and family.

Just because I’m fit doesn’t mean I’m not challenged at Get Fit NH. My weight might not change much, but my body fat and muscle mass have and continue to do so. The new 3D scan, while daunting initially is another great tool that Coach Dean has brought on board. Get Fit NH not only provides great coaches but great tools to help everyone, no matter what your exercise level is, to achieve great goals. Thank you to all the coaches and yes a shout out to my 4:15 family that make working out fun and rewarding and for that I’m thankful.

    Cheers
    Vickie”

So there you have it! Vickie came to us in great shape and has still managed to get great results. At her most recent body composition we found that she has dropped 5.3% bodyfat and gained 2.5 pounds of lean muscle and that is only since May! We are so proud of her and all of her hardwork and dedication!
    Keep making is happen,
    Coach Meagan

We are going on a field trip!

Ask and you shall receive! rockclim

A few weeks ago in Concord we had a board out asking what kind of adventure ya’ll might want to embark on. The votes are in and rock climbing was the winner! We have done rock climbing field trips in the past and they are always a bunch of fun. It is kind of a cool way to put our daily training to the test. You may be surprised how much training regularly will help you at this sport. If you have never been before it is a fantastic opportunity to step out of your comfort zone. They have beginner, intermediate and advanced walls.

The staff at Evolution Rock and Fitness (yes the warehouse looking gym who we basically share a parking lot with!) are incredible. They are so helpful and they make this experience, which for many of us is terrifying, a whole lot more comfortable. If you have come out and climbed with us before, we hope you had so much fun that you will come again this time.

We got a great group rate of $25. This rate includes belay instruction, rentals, and an all day pass to climb your heart out. Although, you may find that rock climbing is pretty challenging and a couple of hours will probably be plenty.

    Here are the details:
    When: Saturday, March 19, 2016
    Time: 9 AM
Where: Evolution Rock and Fitness 10 Langdon Ave, Concord, NH
    Cost: $25

Sign up now! Space is limited to 20 climbers!
