The Loft Indoor Obstacle Course Field Trip is Booked!

loft4Ask and you shall receive!

A few weeks ago I went to The Loft in Tilton to check out the new obstacle gym and it was amazing! I had such a great time and all I could think about the entire time is how much fun we (the Get Fit NH family) would have tackling these obstacles together. I made a couple of phone calls and got us a private date for March 7th and on top of that a sweet discount! It will only cost $15 rather than the regular $25 rate. They can only accommodate 15 students at a time so there is a possibility we will be going in waves if we get a large response.

The Loft is an indoor obstacle course with obstacles identical to those found in races such as Tough Mudder, Spartan Race, Warrior Dash and other obstacle races. The class we have set up will have an instructor to show us how to maneuver the course and attack the obstacles in front of us. This is a very unique and fun experience. You may just find that you want to conquer an obstacle race this summer or you may just discover an adult playground!

We hope you join us in this adventure. The first 15 to sign up will be booked for the 9 AM wave and the second 15 will be booked for the 10 AM wave. The address is below as well. We can’t wait to see you there!

Where: Tilton Sports Center- The Loft 100 Autumn Drive Tilton, NH 03276

When: Saturday March 7, 2015

Time: 9 AM for the first 15 and 10 AM for second 15

Cost: $15 – please pay using the link below to secure your spot

Another Motivating Student Spotlight

heidiThe success stories are rushing in and we can’t help, but share them all with you. This week’s Student Spotlight  is going to Heidi Coen. Heidi has been training with Get Fit NH for almost 4 years! The success you are about to read was earned and well deserved. Heidi is always pushing herself, she never quits and she is always looking for ways to get better and get stronger. It is a pleasure to coach Heidi. I am so proud of her success. I want to encourage ALL of you to take advantage of the body composition we offer. We often refer to it as the truth-detector and it truly is a fantastic way to measure. If you are not having your body composition read regularly you can afford to step it up (I say that with love as always!)

Here is what Heidi has to say about her success:

“Real Results…

I have pretty much exercised in some way for the majority of my adult life (walking, body building (free weights), aerobics, kick boxing, ellipticals/treadmills, cable machines…). But, I never found a workout regime that I got the results I was looking for.

Then in May 2011 – I had heard about Get Fit NH training and signed up for the free two weeks at the Concord Get Fit, attended my first 5:00am class — and have been hooked ever since!

What I have learned is that with all my previous exercising attempts the workouts were all the same routine and none included anything about nutrition. At Get Fit this is not the case! After participating in the first detox – I discovered that I have a sensitivity to gluten. I had taken Prevacid for years because of acid reflux and Excedrin for headaches every day for years. With my changes to my diet (majority of which is now vegetables and protein), my acid reflux completely resolved and I rarely have headaches. In regards to the training, I really like the varied workouts.

But – how do I really know that what I have learned about nutrition and that the training really works? When I had my very first body composition test done in 2012 my body fat was 29.7%. Two weeks ago, I had another body composition test – and my body fat  is down to 20.5%. I have lost almost 10% in body fat! This is results! This is success!

Today – at age 51 – I am in the best shape of my life!!! I feel GREAT – inside and outside!

It’s not just the training that makes Get Fit so great – it’s also the people! The coaches are awesome and I have made the most special friendships!  I love the 5am group!!!

So Meagan and Dean to answer your questions after every class – Do I have fun? Yes! Do I challenge myself? Yes! Do I learn something? Yes! And, I plan on continuing to do so for many years to come!

Heidi”

We loving hearing about your success! The day you realize that nutrition and training go hand in hand is the day you will change your life. Heidi is a perfect example of someone who learned how to fuel her body and train to succeed. I must add that we are super proud of Heidi, who attacked the chin bar and cranked out some jumping chins for her first time this morning. We couldn’t be more proud of her!

Thank You for choosing to train with us, Heidi!

Make it happen,

Coach Meagan

Big Changes Come in Small Packages

sfhBig changes come in small packages.

SFH, Stronger Faster Higher, is changing the packaging of their fish oil. The 6 ounce bottle Get Fit NH currently has for sale in the coolers will be soon be 8 ounces. In addition, SFH will be improving the flavor profile of each current flavor. The 8oz bottle will have 48 servings for $42.00. It will be available with and without 1,000IU of added Vitamin D3.

It’s that time of year where our days are getting shorter and there is less direct sunlight exposure. The value of Vitamin D relative to the immune system and prevention of seasonal diseases cannot be stressed enough.

  • Over 1 billion people are deficient in Vitamin D: Puts them at risk of osteoporosis, heart disease, MS and infectious diseases including season flu, tuberculosis and more
  • Over 90% of Vitamin D found in the body is produced in the skin. Factors such as season, clothing, sunblock and time spent indoors all affect Vitamin D levels. Levels can be significantly lower in Fall/ Winter
  • Vitamin D enables the body to produce over 200 antimicrobial peptides and is a leading factor in immune health
  • D3 can improve immune system function by as much as 60%
  • Vitamin D plays a vital role in the regulation of calcium needed for the contraction and relaxation of muscle during any athletic movement.
  • Vitamin D deficiency can have a significant impact on athletic performance
  • Fun fact: Vitamin D is a hormone, not a vitamin!

I’m a huge proponent of fish oil. The benefits of fish oil alone are staggering and now I can get some Vitamin D at the same time. Win Win!

Gotta Love Me Some Zucchini

rp_zucchini-300x224.jpg

I love late August early September. The backyard garden is bulging with produce. One of my favorite growing plants is zucchini. I think it is because they are easy to grow, hard to kill, and produce fruit with little effort. I’m not much of a gardener but I do put get my hands dirty. Donna K. visited the Red Mountain Resort in Utah this summer and brought back this recipe.

Raw Zucchini Alfredo

8 – 1 cup servings

  • 1 cup raw unsalted Cashew nuts, chopped
  • ¾ cup water
  • ¼ cup Pine nuts
  • ½ teaspoon thyme
  • ½ tablespoon lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ½ cloves garlic
  • 8 cups zucchini

Blend all ingredients except zucchini in a high power blender until smooth and starts to warm up from blender, about 5 minutes to make the Alfredo sauce.

Cut top and bottom off of zucchini. Using the julienne blade on a mandolin cut zucchini length wise to create noodles. Pour sauce over individual portions.

Since zucchini are prolific I wanted to share this recipe from Paulette W. These are one of our family’s favorites year round.

Zucchini Fritters

  • 5 medium zucchini, shredded (4 cups) with box grater or food processor
  • 2 teaspoons sea salt
  • 1/4 cup coconut flour (I used almond flour)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, optional (but yummy) and 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • coconut oil or ghee for cooking

Shred zucchini and put into large bowl. Sprinkle with the sea salt and toss well. Walk away for 10 min. Scoop up a generous handful of zucchini and squeeze the living daylights out of them. You want the zucchini dry – nobody likes soggy fritters. Place in a different bowl. Add flour, egg, pepper, and baking soda. Stir to combine Heat a large skillet over med-high heat. Melt a spoonful of oil or ghee in the pan. Pack a 1/4 cup of zucchini mixture out onto the pan and flatten until you get a patty. You can cook 4-5 patties at a time. Cook each side for 3-5 min or until brown. Cool on a cooling rack so they don’t get soggy.

Enjoy!

A Good Healthy Shave for the Guys

harrystrumanNow this might seem a little strange, but good grooming is part of great health too!

I seriously hate shaving, so when I find ANYTHING that makes the experience a little smoother it is worth passing on.

And it’s like adding insult to injury paying for those fancy 3 or 4 blade replacement cartridges. I got so fed up with paying $3 or $4 a pop that I had to throw away after two uses, that I bought some two blade disposables – the only problem with that is that I had to use 2 of them to get one decent shave, and the nicks were brutal. I’d rather pay the extra.

And then I met Harry’s.

I don’t remember where I first heard about Harrys.com and their shaving products, but I am glad I did. I know this will surprise you, but I was a bit skeptical when they claimed that their “Truman Set”, which consists of a handle, a tube of shave cream and 3 blades, would last me a month. And it only cost 15 bucks, free shipping.

Yeah Right!

So I fussed around the website, looked at how they made the blades, German engineering, all that stuff. Then I figured I had just wasted way more than $15 bucks of my time just looking at the website, so I placed the order, figuring I didn’t have all that much to lose.

I just checked.

My first order arrived March 22nd.

I put the 3rd blade in the handle last night, April 22nd.

And the tube of shaving cream is still over 1/3 full.

I’d call that a winner.

Now I only need to shave every other day, so I can’t guarantee you’ll get 2 weeks out of every blade, and maybe your baby face does just fine with what you are using.

But since Harry’s was generous enough to offer me a few free blades if you order from them, I thought I’d pass the word. And if you don’t like them, just tell me and I’ll take them off your hands.

Stay smooth my friends!

Dean

Ahh……

scenticalsI’ve heard it so many times, “After training I need to put lotion on my hands because of the pull-ups.” Or maybe  it’s after deadlifting or heavy farmers walks.

Well Diane B. from the 8:30 ladies in Concord has heard your cries for help, and she has just what you need.

Diane is the creator of Ahh…Scentials soaps, lotions and lip balms. Think some Lemongrass Sage, or maybe Midnight Pomegranate might be just what those hands need?

I’m all about knowing what is in the products I use. I’m even more in when I can say “I know who makes this and I trust her.”  That is how I feel about Ahh…Scentials. Diane makes all her products by hand, and in small batches so they are the purest and freshest they can be.

They not only smell great, but even more important are the ingredients in the products. Your skin is your body’s largest organ, you need to take care of it.

Once you read how passionate Diane is about her products I know you will want to give them a try – Coach Nancy

“I’ve  I started Ahh…Scentials because I love using high quality bath and beauty products. A few years ago I would have never have guessed that I would ever be the one making them. Back then, I purchased soaps and lotions based on how they felt, smelled, looked or by the brand name. I was unaware about the ingredients and how they can affect your body.

Over time I decided to learn how to make something more natural, better for my family and myself. That is why I started to make my own bath and body products.

I have four types of soaps; Three Butter (triple action of Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter and Mango Butter), Goat Milk,  and Oatmeal and Honey, all of which are beneficial to your skin.

My lotions are handcrafted with an amazing combination of Aloe Vera and moisturizing Shea Butter. Shea Butter is thought to aid dry skin and Aloe has long been considered to be a premier product for moisturizing and healing the skin.

My lip balms are made of skin loving butters, oils and beeswax along with other natural ingredients. You may choose to have it natural or flavored with lip safe ingredients.

All of my products are available unscented or you can choose a skin safe fragrance, essential oil, or a blend such as coconut and lime.

All of my products are PARABEN-FREE.  Parabens are synthetic preservatives suspected to cause problems such as skin aging and certain types of cancer.

Samples are available at both the Concord and Epsom Get Fit NH locations.

 Pamper Yourself!!” – Diane Bottcher

You can get all the details from Diane or pick up the brochures. Check it out for yourself. Sample the lotions. You know you want to after doing pull-ups!
